Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier, Inc., was commissioned to as part of the timing and firing functions on Upshot-Knothole (March to June 1953): Generate and distribute predetonation timing signals for all shots; three airdrops, seven tower shots, and one cannon shot; Install and operate switching relays connected to the timing circuits at the various experimental locations; Install and operate the bomb-firing and monitoring circuits for the seven tower shots; Install and operate the firing mechanism for the cannon shot; Determine the time of detonation, with respect to World Time, of all shots; Determine the time of fall for the three airdrops and the time of flight of the projectile on the cannon shot; Generate and deliver to the communications group a 1000-cycle tone keyed to a specific code; Telemeter, record and indicate meteorological data; Provide timing dry runs for the benefit of experimenters twice daily and more often if required; and Provide personnel to serve as members of the firing team as directed by the Test Director.
