Effect of gamma irradiation on human chromosomes. VII. Correlation between the formation of chromatid-type aberrations and the cell cycle (in Russian)

Human lymphocytes cultured in vitro were irradiated at a dose of 100 rad of gamma rays at different stages of the cell cycle. The pattem of the formation of chromatid-type aberrations was quantitatively studied. It was found that chromatid-type aberrations are induced by irradiation at any part of the Gi stage; the formation of aberrations of chromatid and of chromosome type is independent on each other; and the time-effect curve consists of three parts which correspond approximately to G/sub 1/, S, and G/sub 2/ stages of cell population. These results are compared with the hypothesis of chromosome cycle of DNA proposed by one of the authors for multistranded chromosome. The essence of hypothesis is the assumption that the cell cycle involves two stages of intermolecular proof. A good agreement between this hypothesis and experimental facts is found. (auth)
