The energy discrimination of scintillation spectrometers depends on the parameters of the photomultiplier, of the crystal, and on the construction of the instrument. A description is given of an instrument which can be used to determine the sensitivity of the photocathode at various points and the resolving characteristics of the photomultiplier when either the whole surface of the cathode or any point on it is used.
