Operational experience in radiological control during the N. S. Savannah fuel shuffle

The role of the public health service in providing radiological consultation and assistance to the Maritime Administration concerning operation of the ship is discussed. Other topics discussed are: preparations for the fuel shuffle including a safety analysis report for the AEC; health physics controls during fuel shuffle operations; maintenance facilities; health physics functions; contamination control; radiation exposure control; and waste disposal. Recommendations for radiation control are discussed and include the use of a computerized radiation work permit. (HLW)
