Aliquots from 24-hour specimens are oxidized by heating under reflux with acid potassium permanganate, which also converts iodine present to iodate. The iodate is reduced by oxalic acid to iodine, which is distilled, extracted into carbon tetrachloride and then into water containing sulfur dioxide. Finally, the iodine is precipitated as silver iodide for counting. (auth)
