THE DETERMINATION OF 131 IODINE IN THYROID GLANDS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4343182
Radio-iodine, together with sodium iodide carrier, is separated by exraction into carbon tetrachloride as elemental iodine, and back exraction into dilute sulfurous acid, as iodide. After precipitation as the silver salt and suitable mounting, the BETA activity of the iodide is measured and the observed dpm is corrected for chemical yield and the activity of the original sample is expressed as dpm or as mu mu c by comparison wtth a standard iodine 131 source. The method may be applied to various thyroid gland samples. (auth)
