Indirect determination of iodine in organic compounds by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (in Portuguese)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4933073
A method is presented for the determination of iodine in organic compounds by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. An aliquot of the organic compounds is treated with sodium peroxide, potassium nitrate, and saccharose in the Wurtzschmitt micropump and iodine is reduced from iodate to iodide, being the last precipitated with silver nitrate as silver iodide in acid medium. Silver iodide is then dissolved in excess of potassium iodide. Silver is determined in this solution with a hydrogen-air flame in a total consumption burner (HETCO). The process has a good sensitivity for silver (0.1 ppM) and consequently for iodide. (auth)
