THE DETERMINATION OF RADIOIODINE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4169266
The radioiodine with added iodine carrier is oxidized to periodate with hypochlorite in alkaline solution. After acidification of the solution, hydroxylamine hydrochloride is used to reduce the periodate to iodine which is extracted into carbon tetrachloride from which it is then extracted as iodide with sulfurous acid. Further purification involves another carbon tetrachloride extraction cycle in which nitrite is used to oxidize iodide to iodine. The iodine is finally precipitated as silver iodide which is then counted. (auth)
