Cholesterol and fatty acid biosynthesis after x irradiation (3750 r) from various labelled precursors (sodium acetate-1-C/sup 14/, sodium-n-butyrate- 1C/sup 14/ liver. The oxidation rate of the substrates used is not significantly influenced by x irradiation. Sodium cholesterol and 6 times more rapidly in fatty acids after irradiation than in control animals in the same experimental conditions. Sodium buty-rate-1-C/sup 14/ and glucoseU-C/sup 14/ incorporation is not influenced. Mevalonate-2-C/sup 14/ incorporation into cholesterol is increased about 4 times after irradiation; its incorporation into fatty acids, which is marked in normal conditions, is not influenced by x irradiation. The possible significance of these findings is discussed. (auth)
