The effects of x radiation on the hepatic synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol that accompany starvation were studacids and cholesterol that accompany starvation were studied. Following irradiation, 5 ml of glucose solution was given to irradiated and nonirradiated albino rats until the animals became glycosuric. lrradiated animals developed g1ycosuria 14-l8 hr after irradiation. Before being killed, the rats were injected with sodium (I-C/sup 14/ ) acetate. There was a tendency for animals force fed with glucose to incorporate (I-C/sup 14/) acetate into fatty acids and cholesterol to a greater extent than animals fed a stock diet ad libitum. lt is believed possible that decreases in the activities of the eazymes synthesizing fatty acids and cholesterol and alterations in the regulatory factors that accompany starvation are prevented as a result of irradiation.
