$beta$ SPECTRA OF SHORT LIFE Al$sup 28$ AND F$sup 17$ ISOTOPES (in Russian)
The beta and gamma radiations of short-life isotopes were studied with magnatic-lens beta spectrometer and a scintillation gamma spectrometer. The isotopes were prepared by bombarding targets with 4-Mev deuterons accelerated in a cyclotron and carried behind the shielding into the beta -spectromater chamber. The beta spectra of A/sup 28/ obtained from the (d,p) reaction and the Fermi graph are shown. The upper boundary of the Al/sup 28/ beta spectrum is 2820 plus or minus 50 kev. The half life in the 1100-kev region, determined by the beta spectrometer, was 2.1 plus or minus 0.2 min; the haif life determined with the scintillation gamma spectrometer was 2.2 plus or minus 0.1 min. The beta spectrum of F/sup 17/ obtained from (d,n) reactions in oxygen and the Fermi graph are al so presented. The upper boundary is 1700 plus or minus 15 kev. A considerable deflection from the straight line was observed on the Fermi graph starting with approximates 600 kev. The F/sup 17/ half life period measured with beta spectrometer (at 800 kev) was 71 plus or minus 5 sec. The scintillation gamma spectrometer did not detect any gamma rays from the target after the deuteron bombardment was stopped. (R.V.J.)
