METHOD OF RECOVERING URANIUM

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4270215

A calutron processing scheme is described which includes electrolytic removal of U from collectors. The UCl/sub 4/ and other water solubles are removed with hot water washes, sieved, oxidized by H/sub 2/O/sub 2/, filtered, evaporated, precipitated with NH/sub 4/OH, redissolved in H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, and electrolyzed. This electrolyzed solution is combined with the 0.01 N H/sub 2/SO/ sub 4/ solution in which the collector was electrolyzed to remove metallic U. The U/sup 4+/ is precipitated by NH/sub 4/OH and the U(OH)/sub 4/ is calcined to UO/ sub 2/. The UO/sub 2/ is then chlorinated to UCl/sub 4/. (T.R.H.)
