PROCESSES OF RECLAIMING URANIUM FROM SOLUTIONS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4142264

A process for recovering U from calutrons is described. The UCl/sub 4/ is washed out with water and the U reduced by scrap iron. The pH is raised to 4.4 and ammonia added to precipitate U(OH)/sub 4/. The precipitate is slurried in water and froth-flotation treated with eucalyptus oil; then the U(OH)/sub 4/ is filtered out and calcined to UO/sub 2/. The UO/sub 2/ is converted to UCl/sub 4/ by CCl/sub 4/ at 450 deg C, and the UCl/sub 4/ purified by molecular distillation. (T.R.H.)
