A prccess is described for the recovery of U from a calutron source region. The parts of the calutron source are washed with hot water. The hot water is passed through a sieve and the solid impurities are discarded. The wash water from the sieve is passed into an oxidizing zone containing H/sub 2/O/sub 2/. The resulting oxidized solution is treated with NH/sub 3/ to precipitate ammonium diuranate and ferric and chromium hydroxides. (W. L.H.)
