STRESS RELAXATION IN STAINLESS STEEL DURING IRRADIATION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4218406
Neutron irradiation caused elastic stresses that were produced by a fixed amount of deformation to relax as much as 10,000 psi in specimens of Type 304 stainiess steel that were loaded in tension and were exposed in a nuclear reactor at a temperature below 100 C. The maximum exposure was 9 x 10/sup 20/ fast neutrons per square centimeter. Tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness of these specimens were increased by irradiation. (auth)
