THE EFFECTS OF IRRADIATION ON TYPE 304 STAINLESS STEEL CONTAINING MINOR BORON ADDITIONS
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4772341
The tensile properties and the hardness before and after irradiation of type 304 stainless steel containing 0, 300, and 500 ppm natural B were determined at room temperature. The tubular tensile specimens were exposed to 9.75 x 10/sup 19/ nvt (total integrated thermal flux) and to 4.00 x 10/sup 18/ nvt (total fast flux) during irradiation. The major changes in properties produced by irradiation were evident in the increased yield strength, from 40,000 psi to 80,000 psi, and in the reduction of total elongation, from 55 to 85%. The effects of natural B were most noticeably reflected in an increase of the yield strength in the irradiated specimens with increased B content. (auth)
