ACTION OF ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION ON UREASE (in French)

Journal Article · · Compt. Rend.
OSTI ID:4159008
The exposure of aqueous solutions of urease to ultraviolet radiations causes a transitory increase of the urease activity and a decrease of the Michaelis constant from 1.72 to 0.94. Interpretation of this fact is delicate as the uv radiation acts on the proteins in the denaturing agent. It seems that, in the first irradiation period, the urease molecule assumes a more active structure than the initial structure. This can be due to the liberation, following the unfoldlng of the polypeptide chains of the urease molecule, of reaction sites normally masked inside the enzyme. (tr-auth)
