REACTOR COOLANT RADIONUCLIDE BASE LEVELS, PWR CORE 1, SEED 4

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4152953
Base level fission product activity levels for Core 1, Seed 4 operations were below or equal to base levels observed for Seed 2 and Seed 3 operations. Assuming conservatively that the blanket andd seed contributed equally to fission product levels at start of Seed 4 life, the U-nat contamination level in the new seed was on the order of 4 ppm or less. Absolute contamination level of the new seed could not be determined because background activity from the blanket fuel would have experienced a gradual but undetermined buildup of Pu/sup 239/ from U/ sup 238/ durirg operation. The decrease in specific activity of Cu/sup 64/, Mn/ sup 54,56/, Sr/sup 89,91,92 and Ba/sup 139,140/ is attributed at least in part to the relatively high primary coolant pH existing at the time the samples were drawn. Alpha activity in the primary coolandt was identified as Po/sup 210/. (auth)
