RADIOAUTOGRAPHIC, HISTOCHEMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF THE EFFECTS OF IRRADIATION IN CARTILAGE AND BONE. Progress Report, January 1, 1963-December 1, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4146627
Progress is reported in studies of the effects of radiation on the vascular supply and protein synthesis and antibody production in cartilage and bone of young rats. A method is described for the preparation and staining of cartilage for the microscopic demonstration of mucoproteins. Results are reported from a study in wvhich Ca/sup 47/ and I/sup 131/-serum albumin were used as tracers to determine the effects of 4000 r x radiation on the vascular volume and rate of blood flow in bone; studied on the properties of mucoproteins and mucopolysaccharides in epiphyseal cartilage; and studies of antibody formation in cartilage.
