The integral amplitude distribution of the BF/sub 3/ proportional counter was found to be changed by the effect of a strong gamma background. In the function of electronic amplification. the distortion of amplitude distribution was investigated with counters of different cathodes. The distortion of amplitude distribution due to the effect of gamma radiation may be explained by the positive space charge developing around the anode. (auth)
