A method is given for forming fins on metal tube stock. It consists of enclosing a heated tube in an external tubular die of which the internal surfaces are formed with recesses in the desired fin pattern. The recesses are filled by the use of an expander plug of which the diameter is slightly greater than the original bore of the tube. Magnox may be used as the metal tube. This method is paaticularly useful for making finned tubes for heat-exchange purposes in reactors. (D.L.C.)
