Survey of Iodine-129 Concentrations in Thyroid Tissues (Progress Report, March 4, 1963)
Progress is reported in a survey of I129 concentrations in human and other mammalian thyroid tissues collected at times varying from 1930 to 1963. Neutron activation analysis, leading to the formation of I130, was used to determine I129 concentrations. The experimental procedure is described in detail. Results are reported for 9 whole human thyroid glands and 4 samples of desiccated hog thyroid. Results indicate geographical variations and a biospheric increase in I129 content from 1957 to 1962.
