RADIOIODINE CONCENTRATION IN FETAL HUMAN THYROID GLAND FROM FALL-OUT

Measurements were made of the I/sup 131/ content of thyroid glands from adults, children, fetuses, and hogs collected in Michigan between 1959 and 1963. The concentration of I/sup 131/ in human fetal tissue remained fairly constant at background during the period and never reached maximum permissible concentration levels. It was concluded that values for I/sup 131/ concentration in hog thyroids may be used as an index of I/sup 131/ concentration in human thyroid tissue during periods of nuclear testing. (C.H.)
