A reactor control system which partly eliminates the use of control rods is described. Specific application is made to boiling-water reactors with either natural or natural and forced circulation of coolant. The control of the reactor is initiated by moving one core portion relative to another and particularly moving the outer region of the reactor core relative to a fixed inner region. A highly efficent boiling water reactor is described. (R.E.U.)
