IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4810439
A boiling water reactor is designed with high coolant circulation for increased efficiency. The fuel rod assemblage is arranged to provide upward coolant flow passages between the fuel rods and one or more downflow passages outside the assemblage for inducing circulating convection currents. Chrmney passages are provided on the top of the fuel assemblage to extend the upflow passages and increase the circulation, the passages being higher over the central area where the fuel rods are hottest than over the outer area. In the embodiment described, the chimney passages form cruciform passages for accommodating the control rods. (D.L.C.)
