A method for encasing nuclear fuel elements with a sheath of sintered materials is described. The method comprises the steps of inserting a concavely shaped plug into the open end of the sheath, of welding the sheath, the inserted plug, and the convexly shaped counter plug simultaneously, and of removing the counter plug by machine working.
