CHANGES IN NUCLEOSIDE CONTENT OF RAT URINE DURING RADIATION INJURY (in Russian)
Changes in the nucleoside content of urine induced by whole-body exposure of rats to 600 r doses of x and gamma radiation were studied in an attempt to find an indication of the degree of radiation injury. Total nucleoside excretion was measured by a modification of Dasche's method. The content ot desoxycytidinc and thymidine in urine was determined by paper chromatography after separation on an ion exchange column. During the first 24 hr following irradiation there was a marked increase in urinary excretion of total nucleosides, desoxycytidine, and thymidine, followed by a decrease by the 3rd post-irradiation day. A rise on the 6th through the 10th day was attributed to a rise in thymidine excretion at this stage. The injection of suspensions of bone marrow cells with subsequent daily injections of biomycin had no effect on the nucleoside content of urine in irradiated rats. (C.H.)
