IONIZATION OF THE HYDROGEN ATOM BY SLOW ELECTRONS (in Russian)

In collisions of slow electrons with a hydrogen atom, the Born approximation is not reliable, and it is necessary to take into account distortion of the incident electron wave function by the field of the atom before and after the collision. Both electrons are described by coulombic functions. The calculations were carried out with and without taking exchange into account. The incident electron energy was from 13.7 to 68 ev. All the computations were performed on a digital computer. The cross section for the triplet case is much smaller than the partial s cross section for the singlet case. The cross section without exchange is approximately twice the cross section with exchange. On taking into account the distortion of the incident wave, the cross section is about 20% greater than the cross section obtained by the modified Born approximation. It was not possible to compare the cross sections with experimental data, since the s cross section is a small part of the total cross section. (TTT)
