IONIZATION OF THE HELIUM ATOM NEAR THE THRESHOLD ENERGY (in Russian)

Ionization of the helium atom by slow electrons was computed by neglecting exchange and by taking into account only the s-wave for the incident and atomic electrons. The coulombic wave function of the electron was replaced by the first term of a Bessel series. An expression was obtained for the effective ionization cross section, and the computations were carried out on a digital computer. The calculated cross sections for the single ionization of the helium atom lie below the experimental values, and belowv the values of GeltNoneman reported in Phys. Rev., 102: 171 (1956). (TTT)
