ACTION OF ISOLOGOUS BONE MARROW FROM URETHAN-TREATED C57BL/6 MICE ON RADIATION LEUKEMOGENESIS

Bone marrow cell suspensions from isologous mice pretreated with urethan were as effective in inhibiting radiation leukemogenesis in C57BL/6 mice as bone marrow from normal mice of the same strain. The results support earlier findings, by a different method of testing, from which it was concluded that the promoting effect of urethan in leukemogenesis did not depend on inactivation of the bone marrow. Females appeared to develop leukemia more readily than males in two groups of irradiated mice that were subsequently treated with bone marrow. The possible significance of this finding is discussed.
