COMPARATIVE STUDIES ON THE LETHAL EFFECTS OF X-RAY, Co$sup 60$ GAMMA-RAY, AND 14.1 Mev FAST NEUTRON ON MICE

The body-weight curves of 30-day survivors of female mice exposed to 200- kvp x rays, gamma rays, and 14.1-Mev fast neutrons were compared. The curves of mice exposed to x rays and gamma rays equivalent to LD/sub 50/30/ tended to have 2 peaks in weight loss, one between the 4/sup th/ and 5/sup th/ day after irradiation and the other nt the end of the 2/sup nd/ week. The later peak was generally larger, especially in the gamma -ray irradiated groups. The neutron- irradiated mice showed a grenter weight loss on the 5/sup th/ day after irradiation than the x ray or gamma ray irradiated mice, but a later peak of weight loss was not observed.
