The sensitivity of Ilford Q/sub 1/ plates for ions of approximately 17.5 kev was investigated in dependence on mass. The experimental method is described. An evaluation of the results showed a proportionality between the ion and grain density for each ion mass. The absolute sensitivity for H/sup +//sub 2/ ions was measured at 0.31 plus or minus 0.03. The dependence of the relative sensitivity on the mass number is tabulated for 13 singly charged ions. (J.S.R.)
