NUCLEIC ACID IN THE LIVER CELLS OF MICE AFTER P$sup 32$ INJECTION

ABS>The successive changes of body weight, P/sup 3//sup 2/ uptake, and the amount in the liver cells were measured following the injection of various amount of P/sup 3//sup 2/ (300 mu c, 100 mu c, 50 mu c, 10 mu c, and 1 mu c) into the abdominal cavity. Observations were also made of alterations in cell functions especially of morphological changes of the tissue and abnormal intracellular distribution of nucleic acids (HNA and DNA). The groups receiving 300, 100, or 50 mu c of P/sup 3//sup 2/ showed moderate decrease in body weight, but the groups receiving 10 or 1 mu c showed no change. P/sup 3//sup 2/ uptake by the liver was increased for 3 to 6 hours after injection and decreased rapidly after 24 hr. Changes in cell functions were inferred from the abnormal intracdilular distribution of nucleic acids in various organs. Generally, marked changes in RNA preceded those in DNA. After two weeks, the groups receiving 300 mu c showed some, but incomplete, recovery, while those receiving less than 50 mu c had almost complete recovery. (Abstr. Japan. Med., 1: No. 1, 1960)
