DEVICE FOR HEAT REMOVAL

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4040533
For the removal of heat from a heat source, e.g., a nuclear reactor, a series of entrance and exit headers for the cooling fluid is provided. The fluid from each entrance header goes through the heat source to an exit header supplying hot fluid to a heat exchanger. A method was developed in which the heat exchanger is connected to an entrance header of the heat source different from the entrance header which is connected inside the heat source to the exit header connected to the heat exchanger in question. In this way different regions of the heat source are connected in series with the corresponding heat exchangers. Each heat exchanger exit may supply cooling fluid to at least one circulation pump, while pumps and heat exchangers may individually be isolated from the circuit with the aid of bypass ducts and isolating valves. The arrangement has the advartage that in case of a rupture of a component, the effluent fluid is submitted to a flow resistance higher than that at usual arrangements where the heat exchangers are connected in parallel.
