For heat exchange between the two fluids of a heat exchanger, the cooling fluid being a liquid or gas while the cooled liquid is a gas, an improved process was developed consisting of the introduction of an auxiliary liquid into the stream of the gaseous fluid to be cooled and in the subsequent separation of this fluid. The auxiliary fluid, which is not submitted to an evaporation, is introduced at the entrance and is separated at the exit of the heat exchanger. This measure increases the heat transfer coefficient. A heat exchanger working according to this process may consist of a tube bundle inside which flows the fluid to be cooled, while the outer surfaces of these tubes are in contact with the cooling fluid. The entrance extremities of the tubes pass through an injection header from which this auxiliary fluid is introduced in the tubes via lateral holes provided in the tube walls. The injected quantity is controlled by means of an appropriated pump. (IIB)
