MAGNETIC AND EARTH-CURRENT EFFECTS OF THE HIGH-ALTITUDE NUCLEAR EXPLOSION ON 9 JULY 1962

Magnetic and earth-current effects that followed the highaltitude nuclear explosion above Johnston Island on 9 July, 1962, were recorded at stations operated by New Zealand in Samoa, New Zealand, Campbell Island, and the Antarctic. The disturbance was most intense in the New Zealand region, although earlier explosions produced no magnetic effects there. Small variations were recorded at Scott Base, Antarctica, inside the auroral zone and over 10,000 km from Johnston I. (auth)
