EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES INTO THE EFFECT OF ROD SPACING ON BURNOUT IN A SIMULATED ROD BUNDLE

Tests on a dumb-bell shaped flow passage simulating the gap between rods in a fuel element indicated that burnout was not signlficantly affected by inter- rod gap in the range 0.032 to 0.22 inch. Test conditions were: -960 psia, 2 x 10/ sup 6/ lb/ft/sup 2/hr mass velocity, and 10% mean exit quality with vertical upflow of water. (auth)
