EVALUATION OF BOILING BURNOUT TEST DATA FOR INITIAL OPERATION OF THE HIGH HEAT FLUX 19-ROD TEST SECTION AT 1000 PSIA

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4160417
Forced convection boiling burnout tests were made on bundles of 19 electrically heated rods. The test section consisted of Inconel-X heater rods of 0.550 OD with a heated length of 36 inches. The tests demonstrated that at a high mass velocity (2 x 10/sup 6/ lb/hr-ft/sup 2/) and low exit quality (5 to 10%) this geometry is capable or sustaining very high outer rod heat fluxes (10/ sup 6/ Btu/hr-ft/sup 2/). Above 10% exit quality it appears that the burnout heat flux drops off quite rapidly. (N.W.R.)
