BOILING BURNOUT EXPERIMENTS WITH FOG-COOLED NINETEEN-ROD BUNDLE TEST SECTIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4125003
Heat transfer experiments were made with electrically heated models of a 19-rod bundle fuel element under boiling burnout conditions. The experiments were made at coolant flow rates of 5 x 10/sup 5/ to 2 x 10/sup 6/ lb/hr-ft/sup 2/ and inlet steam qualities of 0 to 30%. The results are compared with these of other experiments. An inverse mass flow effect was observed, with a possible cross-over to a direct mass flow effect at outlet qualities of approximates 10%. A discontinuity in the burnout heat flux-exit enthalpy relation wvas observed at 5 x 10/sup 5/ lb/hr-ft/sup 2/ and attributed to nonsteady flow. (D.L.C.)
