EFFECTS OF FISSION PRODUCTS ON YOSHIDA SARCOMA CELLS

ABS>The fission products (FP) of uranium were injected into the peritoneal cavity of Yoshida sarcoma implanted rats, and their effects on the division of sarcoma cells were studied. In the case of administration of 50--500 mu c of FP, the number of the division of sarcoma cells decreased markedly. The inhibition of cell division was observed mostly 1.5 to 3 hours after the administration. The number of cells at each stage of mitosis was reduced after administration of 500 mu c of FP. When less than 500 mu c of FP were given, cells in anaphase increased in number. Atypical cells always increased in proportion to the dose of FP. When FP were passed through ion exchange resins and then administered to rats, the inhibitory effects appeared to be somewhat decreased. (Abstr. Japan Med., 11: No. 9, 1961)
