SAFETY DEVICE FOR NEUTRONIC REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4003559
A device is designed for the automatic stopping of a gascooled reactor by the release of a neutron-absorbent gas into the reactor. The device comprises an enclosed vessel filled with the neutron-absorbent gas and located in the central outlet space of the reactor, and at least one pipe leading from thc vessel into the annular inlet space. The mouth of the pipe is closed with a closure member which opens when the vessel pressure exceeds a predetermined pressure. Thus, in the operation of the device, the neutronabsorbent gas is released into the incoming coolant and not into the outgoing coolant. (D.L.C.)
