Since 1994 collaboration efforts aimed at developing and applying the state-of-the-art aerodynamic technology for flow path of steam turbines have been underway in China. So far some key elements of the state-of-the-art technology, such as a new generation of after-loaded profiles, bowed and twisted nozzle blade, contoured sidewall nozzle for controlled stage, tandem cascade for short nozzle blades and advanced 3D flow pattern etc., have been developed. The design system described in Part 1 of this paper and the new technology have been successfully applied in modernization of flow path of HP, IP and LP part (37 stages in total) of Chinese 200MW steam turbines. Field tests show that 5% of heat rate reduction is obtained by using the state-of-the-art technology.
