HAPs-Rx: precombustion removal of hazardous air pollutant precursors. Quarterly technical progress report, 4/1/1997--6/30/1997

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:10135636
CQ, Inc., its team members, Howard University, Fossil Fuel Sciences, PrepTech, Inc., and industry advisors from coal-burning utilities and coal producers, are developing HAPs-Rx, a software cleaning tool for accurately predicting the reduction of trace elements from coal using coal cleaning. This effort will tie the mode of occurrence of trace elements to their reduction during coal cleaning and will enable the development of improved methods of removing trace elements from coal. In this quarter, project personnel estimated the trace element content of coal cleaning plant refuse streams, completed a screening estimate of the economics of a novel chemical cleaning process for mercury reduction, and developed equations to predict the trace element content of cleaned coals using conventional washability data and raw coal trace element mode of occurrence information. In addition, project team members attended the fourth Advisory Committee meeting and authored papers for presentation and publication.
