Growth and electrical transport properties of ${La}_{0.7} {Sr}_{0.3} {MnO}_{3}$ thin films on ${Sr}_{2} {IrO}_{4}$ single crystals

We report the physical properties of La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ thin films on Sr₂IrO₄ single crystals. The manganite films are deposited using oxide molecular beam epitaxy on flux-grown (001)-oriented iridate crystals. Temperature-dependent magnetotransport and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements reveal the presence of a ferromagnetic metallic ground state in the films, consistent with films grown on SrTiO₃ and La_0.3Sr_0.7Al_0.65Ta_0.35O₃. A parallel resistance model is used to separate conduction effects within the Sr₂IrO₄ substrate and the La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ thin films, revealing that the measured resistance maximum does not correspond to the manganite Curie temperature but results from a convolution of properties of the near-insulating substratemore »« less

Impact of Sn substitution on the structure and magnetism of ${Sr}_{2} {IrO}_{4}$

Here, the magnetic behavior of Sn-substituted Sr₂IrO₄ has been examined through magnetization measurements and single-crystal neutron diffraction on Sr₂Ir_1-xSn_xO₄ for 0.05≲x≲0.35. For all x examined, the magnetic ground state is similar to that induced in Sr₂IrO₄ by application of a magnetic field. This magnetic state is characterized by a small net moment due to the alignment of canted moments within an otherwise antiferromagnetic structure. The weak ferromagnetic behavior is observed in the magnetization data for both unique crystallographic orientations. Spectroscopic Evidence for Electron-Boson Coupling in Electron-Doped ${Sr}_{2} {IrO}_{4}$

The pseudogap, d-wave superconductivity and electron-boson coupling are three intertwined key ingredients in the phase diagram of the cuprates. Sr₂IrO₄ is a 5d-electron counterpart of the cuprates in which both the pseudogap and a d-wave instability have been observed. Here, we report spectroscopic evidence for the presence of the third key player in electron-doped Sr₂IrO₄: electron-boson coupling. A kink in nodal dispersion is observed with an energy scale of ~50 meV. The strength of the kink changes with doping, but the energy scale remains the same.
