Selective charge doping of chemical vapor deposition-grown graphene by interface modification

The doping and scattering effect of substrate on the electronic properties of chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-grown graphene are revealed. Wet etching the underlying SiO{sub 2} of graphene and depositing self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of organosilane between graphene and SiO{sub 2} are used to modify various substrates for CVD graphene transistors. Comparing with the bare SiO{sub 2} substrate, the carrier mobility of CVD graphene on modified substrate is enhanced by almost 5-fold; consistently the residual carrier concentration is reduced down to 10{sup 11} cm{sup −2}. Moreover, scalable and reliable p- and n-type graphene and graphene p-n junction are achieved on various silane SAMsmore » with different functional groups.« less

Plasmons in inhomogeneously doped neutral and charged graphene nanodisks

We study plasmons in graphene nanodisks including the effect of inhomogeneity in the distribution of the doping charge. Specifically, we discuss the following two configurations: charged disks containing a fixed amount of additional carriers, which are self-consistently distributed along the surface to produce a uniform DC potential; and neutral disks exposed to a neighboring external point charge. A suitable finite-element method is elaborated to compute the charge density associated with the plasmons in the electrostatic limit. Charge carrier transport and separation in pristine and nitrogen-doped graphene nanowiggle heterostructures

Electronic structure methods are combined into a multiscale framework to investigate the electronic transport properties of recently synthesized pristine and nitrogen-doped graphene nanowiggles and their heterojunctions deposited on a substrate. The real-space Kubo-Greenwood transport calculations reveal that charge carrier mobilities reach values up to 1,000 cm² V^–1 s^–1 as long as the amount of substrate impurities is sufficiently low. Owing to their type-II band alignment, atomically precise heterostructures between pristine and N-doped graphene nanowiggles are predicted to be excellent candidates for charge carrier separation devices with potential in photoelectric and photocatalytic water splitting applications.
