This article is a brief defense of a previous article by the same author (Babu and Odeh, 1989) which advocated his methodologies for predicting long-term productivity of oil and gas wells. His former paper discussed a complex general solution and a simpler approximate solution for calculating the productivity index (PI) of a horizontal well during pseudo-steady-state-flow conditions using the assumption of a uniform-flux wellbore-boundary condition. The rebuttal paper (Dietrich, 1995), emphasized the need for a special consideration by the author for well bore penetration allowances. This paper reviews the original intent of these models.
