A conceptual design for a device to produce photoneutrons for use in boron neutron capture therapy is described. In this device, electron beams impinge inward on tungsten targets located at the outer radius of a small cylindrical tank of heavy water. The tank may include up to approximately 50% ( by volume) of beryllium within the heavy water region. A fraction of the energy of the electrons is converted in the tungsten targets into radially inward-directed bremsstrahlung radiation. Photoneutrons are subsequently generated in the heavy water regions in the tank.
