Structural characterization of [({eta}{sup 2}-C{sub 60})RhH(CO)(PPh{sub 3}){sub 2}]: Product of the reaction of C{sub 60} with the hydrogenation catalyst [RhH(CO)(PPh{sub 3}){sub 3}]

Reaction of [RhH(CO)(PPh{sub 3}){sub 3}] with C{sub 60} results in the formation of a green ({eta}{sup 2}-C{sub 60})RhH(CO)(PPh{sub 3}){sub 2}* which has been characterized by X-ray crystallography. Unlike ({eta}{sup 2}-C{sub 60})IrCl(CO)(PPh{sub 3}){sub 2}* which readily dissociates in solution, [({eta}{sup 2}-C{sub 60})RhH(CO)(PPh{sub 3}){sub 2}] is stable in solution and is subject to spectroscopic study. The hydride ligand remains attached to rhodium and does not transfer to the fullerene.
