Damping of magnetization ringing in superfluid /sup 3/He-B

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., B; (United States)
Making use of a spin susceptibility which includes the effect of relaxation, dynamic equations are constructed for the magnetization. The damping of the magnetization ringing in superfluid /sup 3/He-B is then studied. In the case of the Leggett configuration, the longitudinal ringing amplitude decreases linearly in time except in the limit of small oscillation where the decay is exponential. In the case of the wall-pinned geometry, on the other hand, the ringing frequency of the longitudinal oscillation decreases in time t as ..omega../subr//sup -2/(t) = ..omega../subr//sup -2/(0) + At where A is a function of the external field and proportional to the relaxation lifetime in the spin susceptibility.
