By learning to cope with and alleviate a shortage situation, we can avoid an energy crisis. A practical way to meet shortages is to conserve energy, reduce demand, and especially persuade others to do likewise. Suggestions in this book are designed to enrich life and help the reader decide how to invest his fair share of energy in ways that are satisfying. Once the reader decides to take a vacation, for example, he should relax and enjoy it. Energy saving suggestions cover automobiles, appliances, temperature control, insulation, clothing, food, recycling, and recreation. Numerous photographs illustrate the ideas. A positive approach to energy saving, the book emphasizes ways to avoid the unpleasantness of brownouts, shortages, discomfort, poor nutrition, and deprivation. (DCK)
